Weihrauch HW40 PCA
By Jason Curtis

The Weihrauch HW40PCA (Beeman P3 in the USA) is a German made Single Stroke Pneumatic Air Pistol.

SSP also known as an over-lever pneumatic, the pistol works by pulling over the top part of the frame almost 180 degrees and upon closing a piston forces air into a chamber, where it is stored ready for your next shot.

Though hard to cock, it gives an equal amount of pressure for each shot, making this an accurate budget 10m Pistol.

The Hammer is the catch that releases the opening mechanism for cocking and loading.

Safety is off to fire and when emptyThe Safety catch is automatically engaged as soon as the body is opened.

The HW40 is available in 3 calibres .177 .20 .22 . The frame is made from a synthetic polymer the same as the Glock & P99 9mm hand guns, all internals are of metal construction. This makes the HW40 a very light pistol. The downside to being so light is that it can suffer from muzzle flip, which can be corrected by adding some lead weight in the muzzle casing.

I have the .177 version and it is a joy to shoot, with it’s smooth action, light trigger and no recoil, I have found it a hard pistol to beat for the money. Adding a scope has only made it better, by giving it a nice balance and has helped to cut down on muzzle flip.

My only gripe with this pistol is the grip, it’s very smooth and is prone to slipping after a while shooting. Again this can be solved by fitting Hogue or Pachmayr grips, which will stop the slipping and improve the whole feel of the Pistol.

In my opinion this is probably the best pistol to choose if you are just starting into the world of Pistol Shooting.

The HW40 is a great back garden plinker, it can hold it’s own on the 10m target range and can be shot single or two handed with out any problems.
