Webley Nemesis

By Target Bunny

Now what can I say about this little gem? A single stroke Pneumatic pistol with the barrel made by the same people who did the barrel for the Hurricane.
This means a twelve groove fully rifled barrel done to the highest standards. This, combined with the lack of recoil makes it my most accurate pistol.
From a rest it will not quite put pellet on pellet at 10 metres, but there will be only one hole in the target.
Unfortunately it’s a Webley and that means that despite looking vaguely like a 1911 Colt it is actually plug ugly.
This seems to have been a requirement for a Webley pistol and from what I have seen of the new stuff, it still is.
Webley seem to have been incapable of producing a pistol without some easily corrected but glaring fault. Accurate, robust and of superb build quality like the Hurricane but with sights which would disgrace a popgun. My rear leaf snapped off when it brushed against my jacket and finding a replacement has, so far, been unsuccessful.
So if I hate it so much why stick to it?
Because it is accurate. It has plenty of punch coming in at 3.2 ft/lb muzzle energy and it’s actually a joy to shoot.
The addition of a TV style red dot improved the sights beyond belief and since the sight is a lightweight it did not add too much to the nose weight of the gun.
Although it’s heavy (a kilo) it’s well balanced and sits well in the hand. Some slight bulging in the slab sided handgrip would have been nice but this is not too noticeable when using the gun.
I had intended to mount my Hawke red dot on the gun but the weight meant that it would sit too far back and foul the overlever cocking mechanism so the TV dot was opted for.
Some people can not cope with the overlever finding that they trap various bits of themselves or their clothing in it as they shut the gun. Others find loading fiddly and if you use the official method I agree, it is. Instead of the official method, which consists of cocking the pump by raising the barrel with the left (for right handers) hand and then holding the gun by the breech end of the barrel, and feeding a pellet in with your right hand.
I find it’s much simpler to cock in the standard way then use the left hand to insert the pellet and using the PALM of the hand push down to prime the reservoir and clip the barrel in place. I learned this technique from the Hurricane.
So with the pellet in, safety off it’s raise, acquire and shoot. Now with me this is where it all comes apart because with this gun I know it goes where I’m aiming so there’s no excuse for the rubbish score. I can lie about kick on the Hurricane or hammer tremor with the Smith & Wesson but with the Nemesis there is no excuse.
Perhaps Webley did get the name spot on. Nemesis is the Goddess of revenge. Target Bunny
